The Southeast Florida Coral Reef Initiative (SEFCRI) prides itself on being a stakeholder driven Team with balanced membership from non-governmental organizations, government agencies, fishers, divers, and others interested in protecting our coral reefs. Last year, the SEFCRI reviewed and revised how the Team is structured in order to promote a more balanced and effective Team. This included creating nine Vice Chair positions.  Each Vice Chair represents a reef stakeholder group: Fishing; Diving; Citizens at Large; Federal, State, and Local Government; Academia; Private Business; and Non-Governmental Organizations.

The newly elected Vice Chairs are now helping guide the SEFCRI Team on behalf of the stakeholder group they represent.  Just recently, the Vice Chairs reviewed applications and selected 16 new SEFCRI Team members.  Next, they’ll be working on reviewing applicants to expand the areas of expertise on the SEFCRI Technical Advisory Committee, as well as organizing the annual team meeting in September. They have a busy year ahead of them as they help shape the Vice Chair role.
